The 75 Hard Challenge & How It Achieves Financial Success

We recently wrapped up the 75 Hard Challenge at our office, a journey that began with high expectations but turned into a profound learning experience about self-discipline and personal limitations. As your financial advisor, we believe it’s essential to share both successes and setbacks because they shape our growth and understanding.

The 75 Hard Challenge required completing multiple tasks daily, including two 45-minute workouts (one outdoors), reading 10 pages, drinking a gallon of water, following a strict diet, taking a daily selfie, and abstaining from alcohol. Here's how I personally fared:

  • Indoor workout: Completed 30.67% of the time

  • Outdoor workout: 20%

  • Reading: 18.67%

  • Hydration: 53.33%

  • Diet: 58.67%

  • Daily selfie: 18.67%

  • No alcohol: 84%

Initially, I started strong. But as soon as I faced the first slip-up, I began to bend my own rules. This pattern continued, lessening my adherence to the set tasks as days passed. I realized how quickly emotions and justifications can derail our best intentions.

Despite these challenges, there was a silver lining: I achieved my target weight, dropping from 163 pounds to a commendable 150.1 pounds. This was a significant milestone for me and a testament to the fact that even partial discipline can lead to substantial results.

Reflecting on this, I see parallels in managing personal finances. Like my initial fervor in the challenge, we often start strong with our financial goals. However, discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. As we move into the next quarter, I am committed to applying stricter discipline to my budgeting practices, aiming for improved financial health and better savings outcomes.

I believe many of you can relate to this journey. Whether it's a fitness challenge or financial goals, the discipline we apply can vary, and so will our results. If you’re looking to create a more disciplined financial plan or simply wish to share your experiences and strategies, we’re here to help. Remember, it's not just about setting goals but also about creating a sustainable path to achieve them. Let’s strive for progress, not perfection.
